Liberty Hill ISD Agrees to Acquire 12-acre Elementary School Site in Rancho Sienna; 2017 Opening Targeted

The Liberty Hill Independent School District has entered into an agreement to acquire a 12-acre site in the Rancho Sienna community from its developer, Newland, with the goal of opening a new elementary school on the site as early as 2017.

The new elementary school will be designed for 600 to 800 students and will allow the district to keep pace with increasing student population in the district’s fast-growing eastern side, said Rob Hart, superintendent of the Liberty Hill Independent School District.

“We looked at several options for what will be the district’s third elementary school campus, and the location in Rancho Sienna was the obvious choice because it will allow access from both Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Texas State Highway 29,” said Hart. “From the beginning, Newland has been very proactive and positive about the potential for this school site in Rancho Sienna, and we are very excited to be working with them.”

Located along Via de Sienna Boulevard, the school site has a central location within the 550-acre master plan for Rancho Sienna, and will be linked to the projected 1,455 homes in the community by a network of trails and parks.

“When we envisioned what kind of community we wanted Rancho Sienna to be, having an onsite elementary school that children in the community could easily walk or ride their bikes to was at the top of our priorities,” said Bill Meyer, vice president and general manager of the Austin division of Newland. “We are very excited and happy that the Liberty Hill Independent School District has chosen the school site we proposed in Rancho Sienna for their next elementary school.”

Hart said that Liberty Hill ISD will need to get voter approval of a bond issue before construction can begin on the new elementary school, but added that he is optimistic that the new school can be opened in time for the 2017-18 academic year.

“In our business, that’s moving pretty fast, but we believe voters understand that there is a real need for additional primary school capacity in the district,” Hart said. “For grades 6 and up, the district is in great shape, with our state-of-the-art high school and our expanded junior high campus both recently opened.”

Hart said that when the new elementary school is completed, it will showcase the district’s “very high architectural standards” and its commitment to providing students with the latest hands-on technology in the classroom.

“Liberty Hill recently completed a terrific year, with positive growth and successes in academics, athletics and fine arts,” Hart said. “One major highlight was that, for the first time ever, our high school soccer team went to the state championship tournament.”

For the coming school year, Hart said that Liberty Hill ISD recently hired a new Director of Instructional Technology who will be dedicated to integrating the latest learning technology into the classroom at all grade levels.

“I am starting my eighth year at Liberty Hill ISD, and the district has never had such a successful year as the one we just finished. Getting the agreement in place to acquire this site for our newest campus was a wonderful way to end the year and look forward to the future,” Hart said.

Opened in 2014, Rancho Sienna offers new homes priced from the $200,000s to $700,000s, with a master plan that includes more than 100 acres of trails and parks.
