Rancho Sienna Elementary has innovative learning and gathering areas, both indoors and outside
With its traditional Hill Country architecture, Rancho Sienna Elementary School might inspire some people to think that it has been around a long time, after it opens next August.
With a closer look, it will be easy to see that this new $29 million campus includes many new ideas and innovations for today’s young learners.
Designed for 800+ students, the school is divided by a central commons area, with core and administrative spaces to the west. To the east, there will be two-story classroom wings, with classroom spaces grouped together in grade-level houses.
Each grade house will also have its own centrally located open collaboration space. These spaces will allow students and teachers from different classrooms to work together on group projects.
The core area will include centralized art and science classrooms between the classroom wings, with direct views into the main corridor and outdoor learning area.
The building’s main entry will have a small community space that will serve as a waiting area for parents or as a meeting space for teachers, administration staff and parents.
This community space will be the first space a visitor encounters when entering the building, and will serve as the secured entryway. The administration offices will be located adjacent to this community space.
Located north of the main entrance, the library will provide a main gathering area for students during school hours, and for community members after school hours.
The library will feature a curved stone massing wall that follows the curve of Via de Sienna Boulevard. The wall will open to the north with large expanses of glass to take advantage of north daylight and views.
The gym, cafetorium, and kitchen will be grouped together and located at the south end of the building, with accommodations for after-hours use as well.
We’ll have more detail about the design and staff of Rancho Sienna Elementary School as construction progresses and the exciting opening date gets closer!
