Fun holiday events and light displays near Rancho Sienna

The holidays are a very special time in the Texas Hill Country, whether you’ve got kids or grandkids, or it’s just the two of you.  Here’s a sampling of our top picks for holiday fun near Rancho Sienna.

Georgetown Festivities – Check out this link for a great guide to Georgetown’s holiday festivities, including “A Christmas Carol” at the historic Palace Theater and (for adults only) “Santaland Diaries” at the Palace Playhouse. Georgetown’s quaint historic downtown is also decked out with thousands of twinkling lights. The Courthouse is a special sight to see!

Lights in Downtown Round Rock– through Dec. 31. New for 2017, Round Rock’s signature holiday event moves to the historic downtown area, with millions of twinkling lights amid quaint local shops and restaurants. Free parking.  

Ice Skating on the Plaza – through Jan. 15, 2018. Every holiday season, the rooftop of Whole Foods’ downtown Austin store is transformed into a winter wonderland, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily. On Fridays, music is curated by KUTX.

The Nutcracker & other holiday performances – various dates through Dec. 31. Check out the calendar for the Long Center to enjoy holiday classics such as Ballet Austin’s “The Nutcracker” and River City Pops’ ‘Tis teh Season concert

Trail of Lights - through Dec. 23. Austin’s brightest holiday tradition takes place in Zilker Park amid 2 million twinkling lights. There are 40 unique light displays, including the famous light tunnel. There’s also live music, community performances, food and festivities on every evening

Hill Country Christmas – The Hill Country area surrounding Rancho Sienna is filled with festive holiday traditions, and none is more heartwarming than the Lighting Trail, featuring millions of twinkling lights in 11 towns. Johnson City’s Lights Spectacular is another don’t-miss Hill Country holiday tradition.
