Celebrate the season in Georgetown & Austin with our Top 10 picks

From shopping to healthcare, and from education to recreation, Rancho Sienna residents enjoy the best of Georgetown all year long. That’s especially true during the holiday season, when this quaint and thriving town has so much to offer.

Here are our Top 10 holiday picks from Georgetown, along with some from Austin and our Hill Country neighbors. Please note that if the date of a specific event has already passed, it’s always still a lot of fun to get out and see the lights and enjoy local restaurants and other businesses.

Georgetown’s Lights on the Square. Georgetown’s downtown square has been voted as the most beautiful town square in Texas, and it’s never more beautiful than during the holidays, when it lights up with thousands of twinkling lights. The big lighting event was the day after Thanksgiving, but come out any night during the holiday season to enjoy the lights and the many unique, one-of-a-kind stores and restaurants in downtown Georgetown.

Holiday Market on the Square. On Dec. 15, Georgetown’s square hosts its annual Holiday Market Day, featuring live music, vendors, and extended hours for surrounding shops. It’s a great evening to enjoy the many unique boutiques, restaurants and other attractions in downtown Georgetown.

Holiday Fun at Wolf Ranch Town Center. Wolf Ranch Center invites all to their Holiday Celebration on Dec. 8. It features ice-skating, Santa Claus, bounce houses, cookie decorating and much more. Located just a short sleigh ride from Rancho Sienna, Wolf Ranch Town Center is also a great place for your holiday shopping needs.

Heritage Oak Lighting & Santa’s Workshop. On Dec. 7, Cedar Park celebrates the annual Tree Lighting & Santa’s Workshop event at Heritage Oak Park, featuring live music, carriage rides, games, inflatables, arts & crafts, and photos with Santa. All season long, come out to admire this majestic 400-year-old oak tree, adorned with more than 30,000 lights during the holidays.

Round Rock Christmas Family Night. On Dec. 7, enjoy Christmas Family Night in downtown Round Rock. Main Street will be decorated with small wooden houses hosting fun games and activities, and the mayor will flick the switch on Round Rock’s all-new light display for 2018. Other attractions include Santa’s grand entrance, live performances, free hot dogs and hot chocolate, and much more.

Christmas Towne. Round Rock’s Christmas Towne 2018 event features amazing light displays including a walk-through tunnel of lights, full-scale carnival ride, holiday refreshments and much more at the Old Settlers Association and the Dell Diamond Parking Lot. It kicks off with the 9th Annual Round Rock Rotary Reindeer Run 5K on Dec. 13, and continues through Dec. 23.

A Christmas Carol Classic Radiocast. Next door to Christmas Towne, you can enjoy Penfold Theatre Company’s Christmas Carol Classic Radiocast. Reminiscent of “Prairie Home Companion,” the performance features mock radio commercials for local businesses and a nightly cameo role for a selected member of the audience. Glowing with warmth and undeniably evocative of the true Christmas spirit, it is a perfect way to ring in the holiday season.

Hill Country Flyer. The Hill Country Flyer offers seasonally themed excursions through the Hill Country on antique steam trains, departing from their historic depot in Cedar Park. Featuring Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, hot cocoa, Christmas cookies and more, the popular North Pole Flyer rides sell out quickly, so make reservations as soon as possible. Even one of the regular rides is great fun.

Lights Spectacular. Johnson City’s annual Lights Spectacular bathes this quaint Hill Country town in more than 1 million lights. Now in its 25th year, the Lights Spectacular offers hayrides and carriage rides throughout the holiday season. Each weekend, the Garden Club fills the historic Courthouse with holiday ornaments and crafts available for purchase. Johnson City is just one 10 towns on the Texas Hill Country holiday lights trail.

Trail of Lights. The Trail of Lights in Zilker Park is Austin’s most famous holiday event. Featuring 2 million twinkling lights, 40 displays, curated food trucks, nightly entertainment and much more, it attracts more than 400,000 annual visitors, making it one of Austin’s top three festivals, right up there with the Austin City Limits Music Festival and South by Southwest. This year’s Trail of Lights glows from Dec. 10-23.

Rancho Sienna residents celebrate the holidays with events like Cookies with Santa, and they enjoy more events and activities all year long. See photos from some of our recent events, and see what’s coming up.
