Austin ranks as top Texas city for first-time homebuyers
Thanks to affordable new-home offerings from master-planned communities like Rancho Sienna in Georgetown, the Austin metro area ranks No. 1 in Texas and No. 14 for first-time homebuyers.
That’s according to a new report of the nation’s best cities for first-time buyers from Bankrate.com, which measured affordability, employment, culture, safety, and the supply of available homes in the nation’s 50 largest metro areas.
Austin performed particularly well in the job market category, ranking No. 6 nationwide.
Nationwide, Austin ranks 39th in affordability, 13th in safety, and 22nd for both culture and market tightness.
Affordability was weighted at 30% in the study, with safety, market tightness and job market quality all at 20% each. Culture was weighted at 10%.
Austin fared much better than other major Texas metro areas as a haven for first-time homebuyers. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex ranks No. 34 overall, with Houston at No. 39 and San Antonio at No. 40.
