Friends of Rancho Sienna: Meet the McNews

As one of the leading new-home master-planned communities in Austin and Georgetown, Rancho Sienna attracts newcomers from all part of Texas and the United States. In this Q&A, we catch up with Barbara and Jeb McNew. They are still relatively new to Rancho Sienna, but they immediately felt right at home.

Q. Where are you from originally?

A. We met in Greeley, Colorado, in 1977. In 1982, we moved to Nocona, Texas, located near the Texas-Oklahoma border, about 300 miles north of Austin. We lived there until 2017.

Q. How did you come to live at Rancho Sienna?

A. We happened upon Rancho Sienna while looking at other nearby subdivisions. We almost immediately fell in love with the community.

Q. What are our favorite things about Rancho Sienna?

A. We love the trails. We walk them most days with our rescue dogs, Rowdy and Harley. We also love the congeniality of Rancho Sienna.

Q. Tell us about your family.

A. We have been married for 39 years and we have one daughter, Taylor. She lives in Cedar Park with her husband, Brian, and our grand dog, Scout.

Q. What would you tell someone considering a move to Rancho Sienna?

A. This is a great place to live! People are friendly and go out of their way to be neighborly.

Q. What’s your favorite local place to go out on a date?

A. We enjoy a meal at Fish City Grill.

Q. What has surprised you about living here?

A. We have been surprised by how accessible everything is. We’re close to good parks and trails, shopping, restaurants, entertainment and medical care – everything we need is within an easy distance to get to.

Q. Can you share something that very few people know about you?

A. We met in a courtroom in Greeley, Colorado. I was a prosecutor and Jeb was a defense attorney. The judge in whose courtroom we met married us.
